68 Lakh Women Accounts Suspended in Maharashtra's Ladki Bahin Yojana Scheme

Highlights

  • Government suspends 68 lakh women's accounts under Ladki Bahin Yojana due to unverified e-KYC status
  • Approximately 24.3 million beneficiaries currently enrolled in the scheme
  • E-KYC verification deadline extended until April 30th for all affected women
  • Direct monthly financial support of ₹1,500 per woman

The Ladki Bahin Yojana, a flagship scheme from the government of Maharashtra, was recently thrust into headlines due to an important update. According to recent reports, around 68 lakh accounts under this scheme have been temporarily suspended because their beneficiaries failed to complete e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) verification.

Initiated during its roll-out, the scheme provides a substantial financial support of ₹1,500 per month to more than 24.3 million women beneficiaries through direct bank transfers. With approximately 68 lakh accounts being suspended due to unverified e-KYC status, the number of active accounts has dropped to about 17.5 million.

E-KYC Verification as a Crucial Requirement

Following reports suggesting ineligible individuals were also benefiting from the scheme, the government launched a verification drive aimed at ensuring all beneficiaries are legitimate and compliant.

The e-KYC process is mandatory for all women currently enrolled in the scheme. Beneficiaries have until April 30th to complete this step, which can resume their access to the financial stipends they previously received. A delay could disrupt their monthly income source and pose challenges ahead.

Key Details:

  • Monthly financial payout under the scheme: ₹1,500 per woman
  • Total beneficiaries enrolled: 24.3 million
  • E-KYC verification requirement to restore funds access

In a bid to maintain transparency and reduce fraud, the government is taking stringent measures by suspending beneficiary accounts that fail to comply with this regulation.
