Visakhapatnam, India—A disgraced bank employee with a debt-induced motivation tried to pull off an audacious robbery attempt on Wednesday evening. The incident took place at the Bank of Baroda branch near ITI Junction in Marripalem area, Vizag city. The assailant was identified as Y. Ravikumar, who previously worked at the same branch.
Background and Motivation
Ravikumar, a former employee from the Bank of Baroda's Yelamanchili branch, recently moved to Marripalem due to dissatisfaction with his current job. His financial troubles began after he started playing online games intensively. These games proved more appealing than repayment obligations, resulting in significant monetary losses. Ravikumar allegedly lost over ₹60 lakh and turned his eyes on his previous workplace's valuable assets.
According to Kancharapalem police, Ravikumar approached the branch at around 8 p.m., ostensibly for a casual conversation with the manager, Sivaramaraju, and cashier Ramesh. When they began moving pledged gold ornaments into a locker, he suddenly revealed a hammer hidden in his bag and attacked them brutally.
As Ravikumar tried to flee the premises by leaving through a back exit, both Sivaramaraju and Ramesh managed to trigger the bank's alarm system. The police promptly arrived outside the branch and apprehended Ravikumar. Both employees are currently in stable condition after receiving medical treatment for their head injuries.
