A 28-year-old man, Sanju Sharma, was beaten to death in Jaipur's Sanganer Sadar area.
The confrontation began after the victim objected to a group drinking in public outside his brother's shop.
The assailants attacked the victim with sharp weapons, stones, and sticks, injuring four family members who tried to intervene.
Police have registered a murder case and have detained several suspects for questioning.
