Indian jurist Bimal Patel has been elected as a Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.
Patel currently serves as Vice-Chancellor at Rashtriya Raksha University and is a member of the UN International Law Commission.
The ITLOS is an independent judicial body tasked with resolving disputes related to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The tribunal consists of 21 independent members who manage maritime legal issues including navigation, environmental protection, and resource conservation.
