In a pressing appeal for justice for a tribal woman, the YSRC women's wing has voiced serious concerns regarding a disturbing incident of assault in Kavali. Kakani Poojitha, the working president of the YSRC women’s wing, addressed the media in Nellore on Saturday, highlighting an alleged case where a tribal woman was stripped, assaulted, and publicly humiliated.
This incident has sparked significant outrage, with Kakani Poojitha asserting that violence against women has seen an unfortunate rise under the current coalition government. A primary grievance raised by the YSRC leadership is the alleged sluggishness of the local authorities. Despite the reported incident taking place on June 19, the organization claims that an official case was not filed until June 26, raising questions about potential procedural delays or negligence.
Concerns Over Justice for Tribal Woman and Police Accountability
Beyond the initial delay in filing the complaint, the YSRC spokesperson pointed to deeper concerns regarding police accountability and transparency. The leadership alleged that vital details regarding the victim’s location and the medical care she is receiving have been withheld from the public eye. Furthermore, Kakani Poojitha claimed that the local police have initiated legal action against the victim's son—who was allegedly involved in a relationship with a Muslim girl—instead of prioritizing a thorough investigation into the perpetrators of the assault.
The situation in Kavali is not being treated as an isolated case by the opposition. During the press briefing, references were made to another reported assault in Duttalur mandal, where the party claims no case has been registered. The YSRC characterizes these instances as examples of selective policing, where law enforcement fails to act impartially.
To address these grievances, the YSRC has issued a formal call for action. They have urged the Home Minister, Vangalapudi Anitha, to conduct a personal visit to the victim’s family to offer support and ensure that the investigation gains momentum. The organization maintains its demand that the police force must operate strictly within the framework of the law, ensuring that all individuals responsible for the heinous assault face stringent legal consequences. By advocating for justice for a tribal woman, the party aims to draw attention to broader issues of safety and the equitable application of justice for marginalized communities across the region.
