Kolkata: The long-awaited redistribution of portfolios among the newly appointed 35 ministers of West Bengal's first BJP government is expected to take place on June 5. Following Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's quick tour of New Delhi, State Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul confirmed this, laying to rest any lingering doubts.
Direct Bank Transfer Scheme and Border Security Fencing
The state government has furthered its commitment to social welfare with the rollout of Annapurna Bhandar, providing a monthly assistance of ₹3000 to 28 lakh women beneficiaries. This scheme aims for a total coverage of around two crore women through direct bank transfer, and updates are expected every seven days.
A notable announcement is the provision of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for border fencing. Around 46 acres have been allocated in this phase to bolster India's eastern frontier with Bangladesh.
Celebrating Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee's Legacy
The government has also decided to observe June 20 as Paschimbanga Diwas and marked the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee with planned celebrations across the state. A year-long tribute will be observed, culminating in the laying of a massive foundation stone for a 125-foot statue in his honor.
"On July 5, to commemorate this prestigious occasion, the first-ever public stone-laying event of such an iconic statue will take place," remarked Ms. Paul, highlighting the significance of these developments within the state's political and social landscape.
