Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, has sharply criticized the government's recent Governor’s Address, labeling it devoid of a concrete development roadmap for the state. During his address on Monday, he expressed significant disappointment that the administration failed to highlight any notable achievements from its first 40 days in power under the TVK leadership.

The opposition leader specifically questioned the government's political compromises regarding state sovereignty, pointing to the decision to permit the national anthem to be performed twice during the Assembly session, an act he described as contrary to long-standing traditions. Udhayanidhi Stalin urged the state government to prioritize meaningful policy implementation rather than focusing on superficial activities such as promoting social media content.

Critique of Governance and Policy Implementation

While acknowledging some positive aspects, such as the commitment to expand the Breakfast Scheme for students up to Class 8 and the proposal to increase monthly payouts for women under the Kalignar Urimai Thogai, he criticized other policy shifts. He specifically regretted the termination of the Nan Mudhalvan initiative, which had previously bolstered student performance and increased the success rate of candidates from the state in the UPSC examinations. Regarding the Self-Help Groups (SHGs), he noted their successful growth was rooted in earlier DMK-led initiatives, particularly during his own tenure overseeing the department.

The critique extended to the state's deteriorating law and order situation, with Udhayanidhi Stalin citing specific cases of violence against women and children in Coimbatore and Gummidpoondi. He expressed alarm at reports that authorities disposed of victims' bodies without parental involvement, suggesting that the state's security environment is declining to the standards of other distant regions. Furthermore, he took issue with the 'Singa Pen Padai', a special task force designed for women's protection, alleging that members are prioritizing the creation of social media reels over addressing genuine criminal threats.

Additionally, the opposition leader highlighted the persistent power outages affecting residents, noting that even meetings involving key political allies, such as VCK president Thol Thirumavlavan and Congress leadership, were disrupted by electricity failures. He has called upon Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to personally intervene to address these pressing concerns, including agricultural challenges, electricity reliability, and public safety, requesting a detailed response during the upcoming Assembly proceedings.
