Authorities in the Gurdaspur district confirmed that a man carried out a series of targeted killings before ending his own life. This harrowing event took place on Tuesday night, casting a shadow of grief over the residents of Mundi Kalar village in Batala.
According to preliminary reports from the local police, the accused, identified as 35-year-old Manjot Singh, arrived at the residence of his uncle, Nishan Singh, late Tuesday night. Manjot Singh was accompanied by his associate, Pargat Singh, an ex-serviceman hailing from Khan Pyara village. During the encounter, the situation escalated rapidly, leading to a fatal shooting.
Details of the Tragic Incident in Gurdaspur
Armed with a pistol reportedly belonging to Pargat Singh, Manjot Singh opened fire inside the home. The victims of this sudden attack were his aunt, Hardeep Kaur (45), and her son, Haramrit Singh (13). It was noted by investigators that Nishan Singh, the uncle, was away from the property when the violence unfolded.
Following the shootings, a confrontation broke out between the two men. Police investigations suggest that Pargat Singh strongly objected to the violent actions, which sparked a heated argument. Shortly thereafter, Manjot Singh shot his companion. The body of Pargat Singh was later discovered by authorities in an open area nearby.
After the series of attacks, the perpetrator returned to his own home, where he allegedly took his own life using the same firearm. His body was found by the authorities in the kitchen of his residence. When Nishan Singh finally returned to his home, he was met with the horrifying sight of his deceased wife and son, prompting him to immediately notify the local police.
Investigation into Potential Motives
While the investigation into this tragedy in Punjab is ongoing, local officials are looking into a suspected land dispute between Manjot Singh and his uncle, Nishan Singh, as the primary catalyst for the killings. Further complicating the family’s situation, it was disclosed that the accused’s parents had already passed away, and his only brother resides abroad.
The remains of the deceased individuals have been transported to the Batala Civil Hospital, where medical professionals are conducting post-mortem examinations. Local law enforcement continues to gather evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events and clarify the underlying circumstances that led to this devastating outcome.
