The Road Transport Authority (RTA) in Tirupati has launched an intensive enforcement campaign targeting traffic safety violations. Over the past two days, officials have taken strict action against commercial vehicles found violating road safety regulations, including speeding and tax evasion.
During this special crackdown, authorities successfully seized two buses and registered cases against 30 vehicles. Total penalties imposed during the operation have reached approximately ₹10 lakh, signaling a firm stance by the department to ensure passenger safety and regulatory compliance on state roads.
RTA Enforcement Drive Targets Traffic Safety Violations
The Tirupati RTA initiative was triggered by technical monitoring conducted via the state transport department control room. Officials identified an All India tourist permit bus traveling from Hyderabad to Tirupati that was significantly exceeding prescribed speed limits. Upon interception, the vehicle was seized for further investigation.
District Transport Officer Korrapati Muralimohan stated that, to date, legal action has been initiated against 10 vehicles specifically for speeding within the district. A significant finding during the inspections revealed that mandatory GPS tracking devices installed in these buses had been deliberately tampered with or disabled. Under the Motor Vehicles Act and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, such interference is viewed as a serious offense, prompting immediate legal proceedings against the operators involved.
In a separate enforcement action, motor vehicle inspector Mohan Kumar intercepted a contract carriage bus traveling from Kolkata to Bengaluru. It was discovered that the vehicle was operating without the mandatory All India Permit Tax. The bus was seized, and the operator is now required to settle tax arrears and penalty charges amounting to ₹5.20 lakh.

The ongoing enforcement drive reflects a broader commitment by the Tirupati RTA to curb dangerous driving habits and ensure financial transparency among commercial transport operators.
