Telangana Transport Department Cracks Down on RTO Lapses and Agent Presence

The Telangana Transport Department recently launched an intensive surprise inspection at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) located in Ibrahimpatnam. During the operation, Joint transport commissioner (Vigilance & Enforcement) M. Chandrashekhar Goud conducted a thorough review of the current operational procedures at the facility. His assessment focused on several critical areas, including the rigor of driving licence testing protocols, the overall quality of public services, the status of pending applications within the VAHAN portal, and the unauthorized presence of middlemen on the office premises. M. Chandrashekhar Goud emphasized that driving tests must be made significantly more rigorous, asserting that official licences should only be granted to candidates who demonstrate genuine driving skills. He highlighted that a driving licence represents an official authorization to operate a motor vehicle, and any negligence during the testing phase directly contributes to increased road safety risks.

Enhancing Service Transparency and Public Accountability

A primary objective of this inspection was to foster a more transparent and responsive environment for applicants. During the visit, the Joint transport commissioner engaged directly with citizens present at the office to solicit feedback regarding their experiences, specifically concerning administrative waiting times, staff professionalism, and the ease of utilizing the official online service portals. The department has issued clear instructions to all staff members to handle applicant queries with courtesy and to ensure that all service requests are processed and resolved strictly within the mandated timeframes.

To further curb corruption and improve operational integrity, the department has implemented a stringent ban on all unauthorized agents and middlemen from entering the RTO premises. Officials have been explicitly warned that any staff member found permitting such individuals access to the facility will face severe disciplinary action. To reinforce this policy, official notices prohibiting the entry of middlemen are being prominently displayed at office entrances and service counters. The department is actively encouraging citizens to utilize the official VAHAN and SARATHI digital portals for their needs or to approach service counters directly.
