The Telangana government has officially mandated a comprehensive investigation into the tragic road accident that claimed the life of District Transport Officer M. Venkanna. The fatal incident occurred on Monday morning near the RTO office situated in Chelpur, located within the Bhupalpally district, while the official was performing his designated duties.
In response to this alarming event, the state administration issued a formal government order (GO) late Monday evening. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the government has appointed Joint Transport Commissioner M. Chandrashekar Goud, who is stationed at the Transport Commissioner's Office in Hyderabad, to serve as the lead Inquiry Officer for this investigation. This probe is tasked with conducting an exhaustive review of the facts and circumstances surrounding the fatal road accident.
Investigation into Road Accident and Safety Protocols
The tragic event unfolded at approximately 9:30 am. According to preliminary reports, M. Venkanna (45), a native of Maripeda mandal in the Mahabubabad district, was struck and killed by a coal-laden lorry while he was actively conducting routine vehicle inspections. Following the incident, the driver of the lorry was immediately taken into custody, and law enforcement authorities have initiated a thorough legal investigation into the matter.
The directive issued by the government requires the Inquiry Officer to submit a comprehensive report via the Transport Commissioner's Office. Beyond analyzing the specific details of the collision, the investigation is aimed at identifying critical improvements for field enforcement operations. The probe will provide essential recommendations regarding standard operating procedures (SOPs) for vehicle interception, the necessary deployment of safety equipment, and the strengthening of overall field enforcement protocols on public roads.
