Telangana Gets Major Highway Boost with Rs 7.6 Billion Investments

Highlights

  • Union Cabinet approves projects worth Rs 7,597.16 crore for two sections on Highways NH-63 and NH-563
  • Upgrade to a four-lane standard expected to cut travel time by one hour and 30 minutes between Armoor and Mancherial
  • Projects aim to improve travel efficiency in Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, and Karimnagar districts
  • Expected reductions in fuel consumption and carbon emissions among reported benefits

The Central Government has given a big push to the infrastructure development in Telangana by approving two major wide-upgrade projects of National Highway (NH) 63 and NH-563, spanning 190.76 km at a cost of Rs 7,597.16 crore.

Upgrading to 4 Lane Standard

The projects will transform key sections of the highways to a four-lane configuration, significantly reducing travel times and enhancing safety for passenger and freight traffic. The approved sections are located in Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, and Karimnagar districts.

NH-63 Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial Section will see a Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) implementation. This route passes through heavily congested areas like Anksapoor, Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, and Mancherial, where travel was previously slow due to built-up infrastructure.

NH-563 Jagtial-Karimnagar Section is another major upgrade targeting areas with severe congestion. These include Jagtial, Potharam, Gangadhara, and Karimnagar districts that face significant travel bottlenecks due to urban sprawl.

The projects are expected to bring substantial benefits by improving the overall travel efficiency across these regions. According to official statements, the travel time between Armoor and Mancherial is set to decrease by about one hour and 30 minutes, while the journey from Jagtial to Karimnagar will be reduced by about 45 minutes.

The improved connectivity is also anticipated to lower fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and vehicle operating costs, contributing positively to the environment and economic efficiency in the region.
