The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has uncovered a significant case of illicit wealth, discovering Rs 1.50 crore in cash hidden within a bank locker. The investigation centers on S. Narahari Rao, who serves as the Deputy Director of Survey and Land Records, following allegations of accumulating disproportionate assets.
The raid was part of a larger operation conducted by the ACB at multiple locations linked to S. Narahari Rao and his associates. During the search of a Canara Bank branch in Shahalibanda, authorities opened lockers registered under the name of Rao’s wife. It was inside one of these lockers that the substantial cash amount was found, leading to immediate further scrutiny of his financial holdings.
Extensive Assets and Disproportionate Wealth Investigation
Following the discovery, the Telangana ACB moved to place the official under arrest. He was subsequently produced before a special court dedicated to ACB cases, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody as the probe continues. The total valuation of the assets identified throughout these raids is estimated at Rs 13.05 crore, though officials suggest that the actual market value of these properties could be significantly higher.
The investigation revealed a wide array of real estate holdings. Documents for five open plots in the Ranga Reddy District were seized, alongside 1.24 acres of agricultural land in Maheshwaram. Residential assets include a 2,500 sq. ft. flat in Puppalaguda, two flats measuring 1,860 sq. ft. each in Narsingi, and a 1,377 sq. ft. apartment in Rajendra Nagar. Additionally, authorities identified a multi-story building in TNGOs Colony, Gachibowli, and another residential structure in Chatrinaka.
Beyond immovable property, the ACB also recovered significant liquid and portable assets. A search of Rao’s residence resulted in the seizure of approximately Rs 1.54 crore in cash, bank balances totaling Rs 2.29 crore, and fixed deposits worth Rs 5.04 crore. Furthermore, the bureau confiscated precious metals, including 1.3 kg of gold ornaments and eight kg of silver. The agency continues to verify additional assets as part of this ongoing disproportionate assets inquiry.
