Vijayawada, October 25th - Andhra Pradesh's Assistant Minister for Animal Husbandry, Kinjarapu Atchannaidu, has reaffirmed the strict ban on cow slaughter in the state. He warned that stringent legal action will be taken against anyone involved during the upcoming Bakrid festival.

Atchannaidu emphasized that while other animal species like goats, sheep, pigs, and buffaloes can be slaughtered for meat consumption purposes, cattle remain off-limits under any circumstances in Andhra Pradesh. The minister noted that national-level laws exist but vary from state to rules on animal welfare and slaughter.

Ensuring Compliance During Bakrid

As the country gears up for Bakrid, Atchannaidu directed livestock transporters to ensure animals are not subjected to cruelty or hardship during transportation. He warned that overloading and transporting animals in violation of prescribed norms would invite strict action.

Field-level veterinary staff have been instructed to remain vigilant, working in coordination with revenue, police, municipal, and panchayat raj authorities to prevent unauthorized slaughter incidents. The minister advised the public to contact local police for clarification about applicable laws and regulations during the festival.

Compliance With Animal Welfare Laws is paramount, according to Atchannaidu. He noted that anyone found involved in the illegal slaughter of animals or the unlicensed transportation of these animals would face criminal cases under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Andhra Pradesh Prohibition of Cow Slaughter laws.

Atchannaidu highlighted the importance of adhering strictly to legal provisions, especially during important festivals like Bakrid, where animal welfare is a key concern for the state government.
