Nellore, the cultural hub of Andhra Pradesh, today unveiled a bronze statue commemorating S. P. Balasubrahmanyam (SPB), reflecting his enduring impact on Indian music and Telugu culture.

Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu presided over the celebration, marking SPB's 80th birth anniversary. He emphasized the importance of preserving linguistic richness and cultural heritage through education in local communities. Naidu urged that children learn their mother tongue and cultural values from an early age, advocating for a holistic educational approach infused with character-building.

SPB's Legacy

Much more than just a singer, SPB was instrumental in nurturing young talent through the popular show Paadutha Teeyaga. His deep connection to the Telugu language and cultural ethos is acknowledged by Naidu's tributes. The Ghantasala–SPB era has been hailed as a golden age for Telugu film music, with SPB's voice inspiring many generations of artists. The unveiling marks not only SPB's contribution but also the collective effort of local government officials who spearheaded this initiative.

In attendance were his family members including wife Savithri, son SP Charan, and sisters SP Sailaja and SP Vasantha. Additionally, noted personalities such as Dr KI Varaprasad Reddy, the founder chairman of Santha Biotechnics, and music director MM Keeravani joined hundreds of Balu fans to celebrate this milestone.
