Law enforcement officials in Belagavi successfully intervened to disrupt a narcotics transaction on Thursday, resulting in the arrest of a man found in possession of a significant quantity of illicit substances. The operation, executed by the CCB (City Crime Branch), targeted illegal drug trade activities near the service road of National Highway-48, specifically in the vicinity of the Hindalco factory.

Details of the Narcotics Seizure

The primary suspect apprehended during the operation has been identified as Shubham Madanlal Sharma, a 29-year-old resident of the Pali district in Rajasthan. According to police reports, the team led by Inspector Manjunath Nayak intercepted the individual while he was allegedly attempting to sell a controlled substance to an associate named Khetaram Choudhary, who is based in Bengaluru.

During the search of the suspect, authorities recovered more than one kilogram of black-colored liquid opium. The market value of the seized contraband is estimated to be approximately Rs 5 lakh. In addition to the narcotics, officials confiscated an iPhone 14 Plus mobile device, which has been valued at Rs 50,000, bringing the total estimated value of the seized assets to Rs 5.5 lakh.

Legal Action Under the NDPS Act

Following the raid, the Malmaruti police station has initiated formal legal proceedings against the suspects. The case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which governs the possession, sale, and trafficking of illegal substances in India. This legislation imposes strict penalties for individuals found violating these regulations to ensure public safety and curb drug-related criminal enterprises.

The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by regional law enforcement to combat the interstate flow of illegal drugs. By targeting key transit points such as National Highway-48, authorities aim to dismantle supply chains that facilitate the distribution of dangerous narcotics into urban centers. The investigation remains active as police continue to probe the connections between the suspect from Rajasthan and his contact in Bengaluru to determine the extent of their illicit operations.
