Vijayawada, India - The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation's (VMC) "Operation Clean Sweep" sanitation drive is progressing steadily with the active participation of citizens, as reported by municipal commissioner H.M. Dhyana Chandra. During an inspection tour on Tuesday, Commissioner Dhyana Chandra reviewed ongoing cleanliness measures across several locations, including Suryaraopet, Governorpet, Bhavanipuram (Swathi Theatre Centre), and HB Colony.
Vigorous Cleanliness Efforts
Commissioner Dhyana Chandra extended his support to the programme at MP Das Street near Swathi Theatre in Bhavanipuram. He emphasized that the initiative, launched under the direction of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has garnered an 'overwhelming response' from citizens and community groups.
Over 64 municipal divisions are participating in the campaign with the backing of voluntary organizations, resident welfare associations, and terrace garden groups. The commissioner noted that public participation is significantly easing sanitation workers' burdens and improving urban hygiene standards. He stated, 'Community involvement is not only enhancing cleanliness initiatives but also fostering a sense of civic responsibility among citizens.'H.M. Dhyana Chandra highlighted the importance of continued cooperation.
During his site visits, Commissioner Dhyana Chandra inspected the Anna Canteen at HB Colony and reviewed sanitation, drinking water supply, air coolers, and queue arrangements for visitors. He directed officials to ensure proper maintenance and convenience during peak times, particularly in anticipation of the summer season.
Additionally, the commissioner instructed nodal officers to conduct regular inspections of Anna Canteens and ensure that all facilities remain fully functional at all times. Dr K. Arjuna Rao, chief medical and health officer; Chandrabose, deputy city planner; J. Srinivas, executive engineer; and Annapurna, assistant medical and health officer, supported the commissioner during his inspection tour.
