Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, the Indian government has firmly denied any plans for a nationwide lockdown. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, in a social media post, clarified that such rumors are entirely unfounded and irresponsible.

India's Stand Against Rumors

The minister emphasized that there are no intentions to impose a lockdown across the country due to the ongoing conflict. He urged people not to panic, asserting that the government is keeping an eye on the situation but has no plans for such drastic measures.

Monitoring and Preparedness

In his post, Minister Puri highlighted that India is well-prepared with ample oil and gas reserves. The government has secured supplies for the next 60 days and currently imports crude oil from over 41 countries. These steps have significantly reduced dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.

Additionally, petrol pump owners are receiving more credit to ensure there is no shortage of essential commodities like petrol and diesel. This preemptive measure underlines the government's commitment to maintaining supply continuity without any disruptions.

According to Puri, India's current status as a petroleum product exporter further solidifies its position against the need for an unprecedented national energy emergency at this juncture.

Impact on International Supply

The global situation remains in flux. However, Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that despite potential impacts from the conflict, India's supply chains are robust and sufficient stocks are available. He assured that alternative arrangements have been made to mitigate any disruptions.

"Under the leadership of Hon'ble PM @narendramodi Ji, all necessary steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted supply," he added.
