The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) in Hyderabad recently bolstered its emergency medical response capabilities with the acquisition of a new basic life support (BLS) ambulance. This vital addition to the hospital's fleet, valued at approximately Rs 30 lakh, was provided through a generous donation from the family of the late Bantwal Laxman Shenoy and Shantha Shenoy.

The contribution was officially made by the children of the late couple—Prakash Shenoy, Usha Mallya, Aneesha Shenoy, and Dr. Pragya Ranganath—to honor the memory of their parents. Such philanthropic efforts are essential in supporting public healthcare institutions, ensuring they remain equipped to handle critical situations effectively.

Enhancing Emergency Care with Advanced BLS Technology

The newly acquired basic life support (BLS) ambulance is outfitted with sophisticated medical technology and life-saving equipment designed for rapid intervention. These facilities are crucial for providing immediate stabilization and care to critically ill patients during the vital minutes of medical transit, significantly improving patient outcomes in high-stakes situations.

Prof. Rahul Devaraj, the director of Nims, spoke about the significance of this gift during the inauguration. He highlighted that such public-spirited contributions are invaluable for strengthening the hospital's emergency services. By enhancing the current fleet, the institute is better prepared to guarantee timely and high-quality medical attention for patients who require urgent care.

The dedication ceremony was well-attended by several key figures from the institution, including the Nims dean, Prof. P. Chandrasekhar, and executive registrar Prof. Param Jyothi. Also present were Prof. R. Ranganath, head of the surgical oncology department, and Dr. Pragya Ranganath, who leads the medical genetics department. They were joined by assistant medical superintendents Dr. Rakesh and Dr. Charan, as well as media relations officer Satya Goud. The event served as a testament to the collaborative spirit between community members and medical professionals in prioritizing public health.

This donation reflects a growing trend of support for public healthcare infrastructure in the region. By integrating the new basic life support (BLS) ambulance into its daily operations, Nims reinforces its ongoing commitment to providing excellent medical care to the public, especially during emergencies where every second counts.
