NEET-UG Re-Test: NTA Implements Massive High-Tech Security Grid for Exam Integrity

Highlights

  • NTA deploys over 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras with AI surveillance for the NEET-UG re-test.
  • Indian Air Force utilized for the secure transportation of examination materials for the first time.
  • More than 51,000 signal jammers installed to prevent electronic cheating at 5,440 test centers.
  • Rigorous biometric verification, including face-authentication, implemented for all 22.79 lakh candidates.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented an extensive and unprecedented NEET-UG re-test security grid to ensure the integrity of the upcoming examination. Following the cancellation of the May 3 test due to widespread allegations of paper leaks, over 22.79 lakh candidates are scheduled to participate in the re-examination this Sunday. Authorities are committed to delivering a fair, transparent, and candidate-friendly environment.

To fortify the process, the NTA has deployed a comprehensive surveillance network, which includes 1,38,560 CCTV cameras across 5,440 examination centers. These centers are spread throughout 551 cities in India and 14 overseas locations. For the first time, AI-powered surveillance systems will monitor room feeds in real-time to detect and flag any suspicious activity, with oversight provided by national, state, and ministry-level control rooms.

Advanced Technology and Security Protocols

The agency is leaving nothing to chance regarding electronic malpractices, having installed 51,311 signal jammers across the centers. These devices were supplied by the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). Furthermore, the Indian Air Force has been brought in to facilitate the secure transport of question papers, marking a significant escalation in security protocols for this high-stakes NEET-UG re-test.

Security measures are further bolstered by the deployment of 6,600 observers, supported by over 100 virtual observers who will keep a close watch on the CCTV feeds. Each examination room will be managed by two invigilators, and a Centre Systems Officer (CSO) will be present at every venue to manage technical operations. For candidate identification, 38,795 frisking personnel and 48,448 biometric staff have been assigned, with face-authentication technology now integrated into the verification process.

Preparedness and Candidate Facilities

The NEET-UG re-test will run from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM, with specific entry instructions requiring students to report between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM. To support students during the summer heat, the centers have been equipped with drinking water, ORS, proper ventilation, and power backups. Ambulances and medical teams are also stationed at the locations to address any health emergencies.

State governments have collaborated with the NTA to assist students, with some states offering free bus services to ensure timely arrival at examination centers. Meanwhile, the authorities are strictly monitoring social media and digital platforms to counter misinformation and rumors regarding paper leaks. As a precautionary measure to preserve the examination's sanctity, access to Telegram has been temporarily restricted, and candidates are strictly advised to follow only official communication channels provided by the NTA.
