Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a premier investment hub, with state officials launching an aggressive outreach campaign to attract major corporate players. During a recent visit to Kolkata, Education Minister Nara Lokesh held high-level discussions with 17 prominent industrialists and business leaders to highlight the state's strategic advantages for new industrial ventures.
Participating in the plenary session of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, the minister emphasized that Andhra Pradesh is rapidly evolving into a top-tier destination for investment. The outreach involved direct interactions with representatives from key firms, focusing on diverse sectors including steel manufacturing, clean energy, electronics, chemicals, agriculture, and hospitality.
Driving Industrial Growth and Infrastructure
The delegation engaged with top executives from major companies such as ITC, Visa Steel, Emami Group, Shree Cement, and Vikram Solar. Nara Lokesh showcased the state's significant strengths, including its extensive coastline, access to world-class ports, and a rapidly expanding logistics network. These assets, combined with robust industrial corridors and investor-friendly policies, are central to the state’s strategy to become a leading manufacturing powerhouse.
The minister specifically addressed the ongoing development of the integrated steel plant by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel near Anakapalli, noting that it serves as a cornerstone for future industrial growth. He extended invitations to other metal and steel firms to establish facilities for EV-grade aluminum production and ductile iron piping. Furthermore, discussions with ITC explored potential partnerships in crop value-chain development and climate-resilient agricultural initiatives.
Sustainable Energy and Tech Expansion
A significant portion of the dialogue focused on the state’s ambitious renewable energy goals. The government is targeting a capacity of 78.5 GW over the next five years, aiming to attract investments worth ₹10 lakh crore while generating 7.5 lakh jobs. Nara Lokesh encouraged industry leaders, including those from Vikram Solar, to establish integrated solar hubs and energy storage operations within the state.
To bolster the local electric mobility ecosystem, the minister invited Himadri Speciality Chemicals to set up a silicon-carbon anode unit and an advanced materials research facility. These efforts underscore the state's commitment to fostering technological innovation alongside traditional industrial growth. The corporate leaders involved responded positively to these proposals, committing to a detailed review of the potential investment opportunities.
