In India, many individuals do not have stable jobs, including street vendors, laborers, and small shopkeepers. They face the challenge of securing reliable retirement plans. To address this gap, the government has introduced the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan (PM-SYM) pension scheme.
Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan (PM-SYM): Designed for those in the unorganized sector, PM-SYM is not available to salaried employees. It targets individuals aged between 18 and 40 who earn up to Rs 15,000 monthly and are not part of any other pension systems such as EPFO.
Retirement Benefits
The primary benefit of this scheme is a steady income during retirement. Once you turn 60, you will receive a monthly pension of Rs 3,000. Notably, the government also matches your monthly contributions.
In case of death, the beneficiary's spouse can either continue the scheme or opt for a reduced family pension.
Initial Contributions
Your initial contributions will differ based on your age when you enroll. If you start at 18, your contribution will be around Rs 50–60 per month; however, this amount could rise to about ₹200 monthly if you join at 40. Contributions must continue until you reach the age of 60.
Enrollment Process: Enrolling in PM-SYM is straightforward with most processes happening offline. You will need to visit your nearest Common Service Center (CSC) with your Aadhaar card and bank account details for registration and auto-debit setup.
