Monsoon Alert: Heavy Rain and Storms to Hit Key Indian States

Highlights

  • Western Disturbances: Forecasted to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms from April 6 to April 8, affecting nine states.
  • Uttar Pradesh & Bihar: Heavy rainfall expected in several districts, including Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar.
  • Rajasthan: Dust storms, strong winds, and hailstorms anticipated due to intensification of the Western Disturbance.
  • Hailstorms and light rain with thunder are predicted in Himachal Pradesh for April 7 and 8, with an Orange Alert issued.

The forecast is calling for significant rainfall in the coming days, posing a serious threat to farmers in key Indian states. As the Rabi crop, particularly wheat, stands ready for harvest, a looming meteorological threat hangs heavily over agricultural fields across the country.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Western Disturbances are expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms from April 6 to April 8. This pattern will affect nine states—including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and parts of Uttarakhand—and could significantly impact the agricultural sector.

Key Weather Forecasts:

In Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, farmers should brace for heavy rainfall. The IMD has issued warnings for Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Firozabad, Mahoba, Jhansi, Jalaun, Mahamayanagar, Hamirpur, Hardoi, and Kanpur regions. Moderate to heavy rains will also hit Patna, West Champaran, East Champaran, Bhojpur, Gaya, Rohtas, Kaimur, and Aurangabad in Bihar.

Dust storms, rain, and hailstorms are forecasted in Rajasthan from April 6 to April 8. The new Western Disturbance is expected to intensify on these dates, causing significant disruption with strong winds and thunderstorms across the Jaipur, Bharatpur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Shekhawati region, and Kota areas.

The Central Himalayan regions are also under alert, with hailstorms expected in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts. The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for these areas, warning of hailstorms, light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, and strong winds.

In Jammu & Kashmir, the forecast suggests partly cloudy skies with isolated spells of light rain or snowfall in higher altitudes on April 8 and 9. Flood risks remain for vulnerable regions during this period.

Across Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, northern Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, rains are predicted to bring back life to these areas after a dry spell. Farmers should prepare for potential crop damage as heavy storms could disrupt daily operations and lead to significant financial losses.
