A disturbing case of alleged medical negligence has emerged in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana, sparking widespread outrage. The incident centers on the tragic death of a 21-year-old woman during childbirth, which was later compounded by the shocking discovery of surgical equipment within her remains.

On June 13, Chatla Vanaja, a resident of Shambhunigudem village in Gundala mandal, went into labor. Given her condition, her family transported her to the Gundala Primary Health Centre (PHC) for assistance. Reports indicate that no doctors were on duty at the facility during the night hours, leaving the delivery to be managed by a staff nurse. Following the procedure, which resulted in the birth of a baby girl, both the mother and the newborn faced severe health complications. The infant was declared dead upon arrival after being transferred to the Government Hospital in Yellandu, while Chatla Vanaja succumbed to her condition while en route to a medical facility in Khammam.

Investigation into Medical Negligence Claims

The tragedy took a dark turn during post-cremation rituals in the family's native village. While collecting the ashes from the funeral pyre, grieving relatives discovered a pair of surgical scissors, purportedly left behind during the earlier delivery procedure. This grim find has led the family to allege gross medical negligence by the staff involved in the delivery at the Gundala PHC.

In response to the accusations, the Gundala Medical Officer has reportedly claimed that no surgical intervention was conducted. However, the presence of the surgical tool among the remains has prompted intense questioning from the victim's family and the local community, who are now demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

Government authorities have initiated a comprehensive inquiry to ascertain the facts surrounding this case of medical negligence. As part of the preliminary administrative action, the Gundala Medical Officer has been placed under suspension while the investigation proceeds. The incident highlights critical concerns regarding healthcare standards and the availability of professional medical oversight in rural primary health centers, leaving the local community seeking accountability for the profound loss of both mother and child.
