The overwhelming number of visitors created long queues that extended well into the nearby roadways, reflecting the deep-rooted significance of the event. Pilgrims traveled from various states, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Traditions and Infrastructure at Bara Shaheed Dargah
Central to the Rottela Panduga is the unique custom of exchanging symbolic rotis. Many attendees specifically seek out rotis associated with prayers for securing employment, finding life partners, or seeking blessings for children. The scale of the gathering has expanded dramatically over the years; local officials estimate that attendance has surged from approximately four lakh in 2014 to nearly 18 lakh today. This growth is largely attributed to improved infrastructure and enhanced facilities at the site.
Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, joined by Waqf Board chairman Sk. Abdul Azeez, highlighted that the dargah acts as a bridge, successfully transcending religious and caste boundaries. Efforts are currently underway to further upgrade the site’s amenities. Sk. Abdul Azeez confirmed that feedback from this year’s festival will be utilized to refine and improve arrangements for future events.
The management of such a large crowd was facilitated by the dedicated efforts of law enforcement and sanitation teams. The local police force received widespread praise for implementing round-the-clock command and control operations, utilizing advanced technology to manage the area and assist in reuniting missing individuals with their families. Meanwhile, sanitation workers were commended for their commitment to maintaining hygiene standards despite the high volume of visitors.
Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, who attended the rituals with his family, emphasized the importance of the event to his constituency. During his participation, he offered prayers for regional progress, including the advancement of Andhra Pradesh under the current leadership. He reaffirmed his commitment to the continued development of the Bara Shaheed Dargah, noting that the festival has become a cherished tradition for both his family and the wider community.
