The centerpiece of the festivities was an enormous confectionery creation designed to feed 250 attendees. Crafted by private chef Molly Wenk and Martha Stewart’s food content director Sarah Carey, the cake was a logistical feat that required two days of intensive preparation. The elaborate process involved baking multiple sheet cakes and decorating them with whipped cream and roughly 24 pounds of fresh berries to form the iconic American flag design.

The culinary offerings extended beyond the impressive dessert. Guests enjoyed a menu featuring classic favorites, including fried chicken, potato salad, and a signature chopped salad created by Alexis Stewart. To toast the occasion, the event featured refreshments such as STILL Gin, a spirit brand associated with Snoop Dogg, alongside fine champagne and local craft brews.

Honoring an Unsung American Founder

The gathering, titled "An Evening on Jay Street: Celebrating an Unsung Founder at America's 250th," served a greater purpose beyond the celebration. Martha Stewart is actively involved in the restoration project of Bedford House, the historic home of John Jay. Jay, who served as the first Chief Justice of the United States, played a pivotal role in negotiating the 1794 Jay Treaty, which helped ensure peace with Great Britain.

Throughout the evening, the estate was adorned with historical details and authentic American flags sourced from the nation’s oldest manufacturer. Musical contributions included a performance of the national anthem and “America the Beautiful” by Chris Herbert, Stewart’s nephew. The event also highlighted ongoing community projects, including a planned garden restoration documentary and partnerships with the FEED program to support children in need.

Attendees at the Cantitoe Corners estate included several prominent figures linked to the historical preservation effort, such as actor Denis Leary and his wife Ann.
