Authorities in Hyderabad and surrounding regions have intensified their crackdown on illegal narcotics, leading to multiple high-stakes arrests and significant contraband seizures. The recent wave of ganja smuggling operations has triggered a robust response from specialized law enforcement agencies aimed at disrupting the supply chain across state borders.
In a coordinated operation, the Task Force and Annapureddypalli police successfully apprehended two individuals at the Venkapuram crossroad in Khammam district. The suspects, identified as Muhammad Ramshad Cheriyandi (also known as Abdul Rasheed) and Sriraj Kunjuveetil, both hailing from Kerala, were found in possession of 88.5 kilograms of ganja. Valued at approximately ₹44.2 lakh, the contraband was being transported from the Andhra-Odisha border to be delivered to a receiver in Kerala. While the two suspects are in custody, authorities are actively searching for other members of the network, including a financier and a seller.
High-Stakes Interceptions and Anti-Drug Operations
In another significant development, the EAGLE Force conducted a daring pursuit covering over 80 kilometers to intercept a gang smuggling narcotics. Led by sub-inspector K. Ravi Prasad, the team followed a multi-utility vehicle from Balimela to Jeypore. They eventually intercepted the vehicle in a remote jungle area. Although the driver managed to escape, officials seized 500 kilograms of ganja estimated to be worth ₹2.5 crore. This operation marks a major blow to cross-state ganja smuggling activities, with the seized evidence handed over to the Koraput police in Odisha.
Further strengthening the crackdown, the LB Nagar Special Operations Team (SOT), in conjunction with Abdullapurmet police, arrested three individuals on the ORR service road. Officers discovered 51.8 kg of the narcotic substance, valued at roughly ₹25.9 lakh, concealed inside their vehicle. Initial investigations suggest the contraband was cultivated in Odisha forests and intended for a Hyderabad-based buyer. The police have impounded the vehicle, mobile devices, and cash associated with the suspects as the investigation continues.
Beyond drug enforcement, regional authorities continue to manage various public safety incidents. This includes ongoing investigations into a fatal hit-and-run case at Gachibowli involving Rampa Jitanya, and an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) operation that resulted in the arrest of B. Ramakrishna Reddy, an Additional Assistant Engineer at IDA Bolaram. Furthermore, emergency services under the ERSS successfully intervened to rescue a distressed woman in Jagtial district, highlighting the effectiveness of the local emergency response infrastructure.
