Maharashtra has achieved a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey by securing two prestigious Gold Awards at the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) 2026. This recognition underscores the state's persistent efforts to streamline public service delivery through innovative e-governance solutions across its rural and district administrative landscapes.
The Kadepur Gram Panchayat, located in the Kadegaon taluka of Sangli district, has been honored with a Gold Award for its pioneering Grassroots Level Initiatives aimed at expanding service accessibility. It has distinguished itself as the first rural body in India to successfully deploy a fully paperless e-Office infrastructure. By facilitating over 1,355 online services to more than 4,321 citizens, the panchayat has set a high standard for rural efficiency, notably increasing its revenue collection by 21 percent through integrated digital payment systems.
Advanced Technological Integration in Governance
The administrative success in Kadepur is largely attributed to the adoption of sophisticated modern tools. The panchayat has utilized eight different Artificial Intelligence-powered applications to manage essential tasks such as data analysis, automated RTI reply generation, scheme eligibility assessments, and smart noting. Furthermore, the implementation of Blockchain technology ensures secure and tamper-proof record-keeping, while GIS-based geo-tagging was used for 309 properties, resulting in a substantial increase in house tax revenue of approximately Rs 7.5 lakh.
Citizen participation has also been revolutionized through the Meri Panchayat App, which achieved a 100 percent resolution rate for 1,736 grievances. Additionally, all 60 Gram Sabha meetings were conducted entirely in a digital format via the Nirnay App. This panchayat remains unique in India for having officially ratified comprehensive policies covering robotics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence.
In another notable achievement, the Health Department of Nandurbar Zilla Parishad received a Gold Award in the District Level Initiatives in e-Governance category. Their flagship project, e-Aarogya Dhamni, has been instrumental in enhancing healthcare accessibility and responsiveness for citizens living in the district’s remote and tribal regions. By leveraging digital connectivity, the project has ensured that quality medical services are effectively delivered to underserved populations.
These dual accomplishments highlight the state government’s ongoing commitment to building a transparent, technology-driven administrative framework. The formal presentation of these awards is scheduled to take place at the 29th National Conference on e-Governance in Jaipur, Rajasthan, which will be held from July 1 to July 2, 2026. Each Gold Award recipient will be honored with a trophy, a certificate, and a cash incentive of Rs 10 lakh.
