LPG Users Must Complete Aadhaar e-KYC for Safe Cooking Gas Supply

Highlights

  • Government mandates e-KYC for all LPG users through their apps
  • E-KYC process is available from home via multiple app options
  • No shortage of fuel amid West Asia tensions, but bookings have dropped slightly
  • Digital booking via applications and helpline support are encouraged

The Indian government has introduced a new requirement for all domestic LPG (cooking gas) users to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication, making the process more convenient at home.

Through their oil marketing company's mobile app and the Aadhaar FaceRD application, consumers can now perform their e-KYC from anywhere. The IndianOil ONE app is for Indane Gas customers, HelloBPCL for Bharat Gas users, and HP Pay for HouseHold Power (HP) Gas.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has confirmed that no shortages of cooking gas or other fuels are expected despite tensions in the West Asia region. However, there has been a decline in LPG refill bookings to approximately 7.7 million from last year's peak of 8.88 million due to initial panic buying.

While e-KYC is now available for all customers, anyone encountering problems can reach out to their LPG distributor or call the toll-free helpline number provided by the ministry.

To complete the e-KYC process at home:

  • Download and register/log in your provider's mobile app, including the Aadhaar FaceRD app.
  • Go to your e-KYC option within apps.
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and authorize the authentication.
  • Verify your face using the Aadhaar FaceRD.
  • Succeeding verification marks the completion of e-KYC process, updating your LPG connection status.

With the introduction of e-KYC for domestic LPG users, households will be able to ensure a safe and compliant supply of cooking gas without physically visiting filling stations. The government is promoting digital booking via these apps as part of this move towards more efficient and safer energy consumption.
