  • Government announces improved domestic LPG supply as backlog clears
  • Delivery times reduced to 4.5 days from over six days during tensions
  • Oil marketing companies increased production to 50,000 tonnes per day for domestic use
  • New option allows customers to receive transfer vouchers or terminate connections

The central government has announced significant improvements in the domestic LPG cylinder supply, addressing the backlog and reducing delivery times. A joint secretary from the Petroleum Ministry, Sujata Sharma, revealed that the recent efforts have succeeded in clearing a substantial portion of the waiting list. According to Sharma, deliveries are now exceeding bookings since March, marking an improvement over the six-day delay seen during heightened tensions between America and Iran.

The latest figures highlight a promising turnaround: Nearly 1.7 crore refills were booked in just four days, while 6 lakh additional cylinders have been successfully supplied by gas distributors. Prior to the Middle East conflict, delivery times remained at two days; however, as tensions escalated, these times increased significantly over five days.

Efforts to Clear Backlog:

To tackle the backlog, oil marketing companies have ramped up LPG production in refineries to approximately 50,000 tonnes per day. Sharma noted that this increase is crucial for sustaining domestic availability and addressing the current demand effectively.

LPG Customers Have New Options

In a bid to accommodate all consumers, the central government has issued a notification that allows LPG customers to either terminate their PNG connection or receive a transfer voucher. This new option enables users who might be moving to non-PNG areas to reobtain their connections easily, ensuring no one is denied access to essential services.

Despite these progress updates, Sharma reassured that there is currently no fuel shortage in the country and called upon stakeholders to maintain continuous monitoring of the ongoing situation. The government remains committed to normalizing the booking process to ensure timely deliveries and improved customer satisfaction.
