LPG Booking Rules Change: Wait 35 Days for Next Cylinder

Highlights

  • Wait time for LPG cylinder bookings extended to 35 days.
  • Longer wait periods (45 days) apply to Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries and rural consumers.
  • New OTP verification system introduced at delivery point.
  • Consumers exceeding their annual subsidized cylinder quota need to provide additional information online.

In a move to regulate gas supply and manage the ongoing shortage, major gas companies in India have implemented new rules regarding LPG cylinder bookings. Consumers across the country now face longer wait periods before they can secure their next cylinder.

Under the revised guidelines, domestic customers with standard connections will need to wait a minimum of 35 days after purchasing one cylinder before booking another. This rule specifically impacts those with two-cylinder connections (double-bottom connections) .

Impact on Subsidized Consumers

The impact varies for different consumer categories. Beneficiaries of the **Ujjwala Yojana**, a government scheme providing subsidized LPG to families below the poverty line, will have an even longer wait time of **45 days**. Customers with **single-cylinder connections** can book refills only after 25 days from their last delivery.

Adding another layer of complexity, rural consumers also face a **45-day waiting period**, and they must provide an OTP (One Time Passcode) at the time of delivery. Furthermore, if a consumer fails to complete their e-KYC (Know Your Customer), their booking may be rejected.

To further streamline the process and address potential shortages, gas companies have introduced a new system for consumers who have exhausted their annual quota of 12 subsidized cylinders (effective from April 1 to March 31). These consumers will need to answer a series of questions on the company's app regarding their family size, guest count, and any upcoming events like weddings or large gatherings.

Based on their responses, gas companies will decide if an additional cylinder can be allocated. The aim behind these new regulations is to efficiently manage gas supply and ensure its availability for those in genuine need.
