Kolkata, India – The Kolkata Police removed a security gadget from Trinamul Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee's vast residence named Shantiniketan on Harish Mukherjee Road in Kalighat. Local residents, after receiving a notice about the property's building plans last week, suspected it as an unannounced police raid. In the afternoon, plain-clothes officers entered while others stood guard outside.
Upon returning from their inspection, the police departed with a large monitor which was suspected to be used for screening CCTV footage, a crucial detail that underpins Banerjee's security setup. The move comes as part of the gradual withdrawal of Z-plus security from Banerjee, following the recent change in government.
Security Withdrawal Follows Policy Changes
This is not the first time this type of action has been observed in Kolkata. Earlier, the police had removed their security apparatus and personnel from Shantiniketan during TMC rule, which transformed the area into a fortified stronghold.
