Authorities in Kerala have initiated legal action against a popular social media influencer following serious allegations regarding the distribution of inappropriate content. The Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police officially registered a case against the vlogger, known by the alias Thoppi, whose legal name is Muhammad Nihad.
This investigation into the vlogger was triggered after a formal complaint was lodged by advocate Sreejith Perumana on Saturday. The complaint highlighted concerns regarding the nature of the videos Muhammad Nihad was uploading to his various digital platforms, including his prominent YouTube channels and Instagram accounts. These channels collectively cater to a substantial audience, with his primary YouTube channel alone boasting over one million subscribers.
Investigation Into Obscene Social Media Content
The core of the legal challenge centers on allegations that the vlogger frequently featured his friends in videos containing obscene material and utilized offensive, inappropriate language. Officials from the Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police confirmed that after conducting a preliminary inquiry, which included a thorough review of the digital content across his profiles, they found sufficient grounds to move forward with a formal case. As part of their investigative process, police also recorded the statements of several individuals who appeared in the influencer's videos.
Law enforcement officials expressed particular concern regarding the target demographic of this content, noting that a vast majority of the vlogger's viewers are teenagers. The influence of such content on younger audiences has intensified the scrutiny surrounding the influencer's online activities. The formal case was initiated following a petition submitted to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, which prompted a swift response from the cyber division.
History of Legal Troubles for the Influencer
This recent case marks another instance of the vlogger encountering friction with law enforcement agencies. Muhammad Nihad, popularly known as Thoppi, has a documented history of being under police radar. In April of last year, he was taken into custody after an incident near Vadakara in the Kozhikode district, where he was accused of threatening a private bus crew while brandishing an air gun.
Furthermore, the influencer faced legal consequences back in 2023 when he was arrested in Valanchery, located in the Malappuram district. That arrest was related to accusations that he employed abusive language in public spaces and caused significant disruption to local traffic flow. The current investigation serves as a continuation of the ongoing legal challenges he has faced while operating as a high-profile content creator on social media platforms in Kerala.
