The Kanaka Durga Temple, a significant spiritual landmark located on the scenic Indrakeeladri hill, has once again demonstrated the immense devotion of its visitors. Temple officials recently announced that the institution's donation boxes, known as hundis, accumulated a staggering ₹3.81 crore in offerings over a short span of just 17 days.
This impressive financial inflow was recorded between June 3 and June 20. The collection process was completed on a Saturday, carried out under rigorous security protocols to ensure absolute accountability. When the Kanaka Durga Temple hundis were opened and the contents were meticulously counted, it was revealed that devotees contributed a diverse array of offerings, including cash, precious metals, and various forms of foreign currency.
Detailed Breakdown of Hundi Collections
According to the official report provided by the temple management, the total monetary collection amounted to ₹3,81,94,846. This impressive sum consisted of ₹3,64,59,846 in currency notes, alongside ₹17,35,000 in smaller change and coins. The financial data highlights that the shrine sees an average daily donation rate of approximately ₹22.46 lakh, underscoring its status as a major destination for pilgrims.
Beyond the cash donations, the Kanaka Durga Temple received significant quantities of precious metals. The inventory count confirmed the addition of 230 grams of gold and 4.3 kilograms of silver to the temple's assets. Furthermore, the offerings included a notable variety of foreign currencies from across the globe, featuring 1,707 US dollars, 50 Australian dollars, 195 UAE dirhams, 52 Saudi riyals, 34 Bahraini dinars, 30 Singapore dollars, 10 euros, 10 Scottish pounds, eight Malaysian ringgit, and one Omani riyal.
Interestingly, the counting process also uncovered a small number of older or demonetized currency notes, specifically 15 notes of the ₹2,000 denomination and five notes of the ₹500 denomination. Executive officer V.K. Seena Nayak emphasized that the entire counting operation was conducted with complete transparency. Every step of the procedure was monitored under high-definition CCTV surveillance, with oversight provided by designated officials from the Endowments Department and representatives from banking institutions.
The funds generated through these generous donations are slated to be deposited securely into the temple's official accounts. These resources play a vital role in supporting various ongoing developmental projects and enhancing the infrastructure and amenities provided to pilgrims visiting the historic site. As one of the most prominent Shakti shrines in the country, the continued financial support from the public remains crucial for the upkeep and expansion of the sacred site.
