K.T. Rama Rao Claims Telangana Growth Reversing Under Current Congress Administration
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has alleged that development and welfare in Telangana are declining under the current Congress government. He criticized the state's rising debt and recent policy decisions, urging his party cadre to prepare for the upcoming electoral challenges.

The political landscape in Telangana has become increasingly contentious as K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of the BRS, recently voiced sharp criticism regarding the state’s current trajectory. During a party gathering in Venkatagiri, located within the Khammam district, he argued that Telangana growth has experienced a significant reversal since the current administration took office approximately two-and-a-half years ago.
K.T. Rama Rao emphasized that the momentum of welfare initiatives and infrastructure development, which were hallmarks of the previous tenure, has notably slowed down. He asserted that the prevailing policies under the Congress government are actively hindering the progress of the state. These remarks were made during a session aimed at preparing party members for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision, where he urged the cadre to intensify their efforts to facilitate a return to power in the subsequent Assembly elections.
Concerns Over Economic Management and Policy Impact
A major focus of his critique involved the fiscal health of the state. K.T. Rama Rao alleged that the current government has accumulated a massive debt of Rs 2.5 lakh crore within its short duration in power. He challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to provide transparency regarding how these substantial funds have been utilized. Furthermore, he highlighted grievances regarding public housing, specifically mentioning the demolition of residences in Velugumatla, Khammam, which he claimed left families destitute.
The BRS leader also drew attention to several specific policy areas. He noted that the previous administration had successfully executed massive infrastructure projects, such as the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme and the Sitarama project, while concurrently expanding medical education facilities and strengthening public hospitals through strategic borrowing. In contrast, he claimed the current leadership is failing to maintain this pace.
Additionally, K.T. Rama Rao criticized the approach toward land administration, particularly targeting Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. He alleged that significant tracts of land have been moved to a prohibited list, creating undue pressure on landowners. He also warned of potential plans to reintroduce land taxes, which had been previously abolished to provide relief to the agricultural sector. As the political environment heats up, these allegations regarding Telangana growth reflect the intensifying friction between the ruling party and the opposition, setting the stage for future electoral challenges.
