  • Requests review of responsibilities based on seniority and electoral prospects

Bengaluru: In a major sign of dissent within the Karnataka Congress party ranks, Minister K H Muniyappa publicly expressed his dissatisfaction over the recent cabinet reshuffle that determined his portfolio. His statement came shortly after senior minister Ramalinga Reddy announced his resignation over similar concerns.

Addressed to the media, Muniyappa stated, "Seniority has not been maintained in this exercise. I and Ramalinga Reddy have both won eight times each and others hold seven, six or five years of service. This imbalance needs redressing."

"Seeking Equitable Treatment for Veteran Leaders"

Muniyappa called on AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to ensure that experienced leaders like himself are also treated equitably in future portfolio allocations.

Referring to his own request for the Social Welfare or Agriculture portfolios, he emphasized, "I have a political career spanning 50 years. I am making this appeal so that there is no confusion and that senior leaders receive due consideration."

Muniyappa further stressed on allocating responsibilities based not only on seniority but also with an eye towards electoral prospects in the upcoming assembly elections, 2028.

"Reviewing the Allocation of Responsibilities"

The minister also spoke about his desire that portfolios be reviewed by Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and state president B K Hariprasad. His statement aimed at bringing more public service benefits through his allotted Food and Civil Supplies portfolio, but he insists on wider possibilities in social welfare and farming issues.

Muniyappa's comments come amidst a rising wave of discontent among senior party leaders over the current distribution of portfolios, suggesting that despite winning multiple mandates, some believe their seniority has not been respected. His appeal to leadership reflects the complex challenges facing the Congress on maintaining internal harmony as it seeks electoral success in the state.
