Iran Speaker States Strait of Hormuz Will Not Return to Pre-War Status

Iran has declared that the operational dynamics of the Strait of Hormuz will undergo significant changes, asserting that it will no longer return to its pre-war status. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, emphasized that while international regulations will be respected, Iran intends to oversee the administration of this critical maritime passageway moving forward.

These statements were delivered by Ghalibaf on Monday following his return from Switzerland. His visit marked the conclusion of an initial round of technical discussions held with the United States, which were based on a 14-point memorandum of understanding between the two nations. The shift in the administration of the Strait of Hormuz is being positioned as a key outcome of these developments.

Shifting Dynamics in Regional Security

During his address, Ghalibaf highlighted that Iran exerted substantial leverage throughout the diplomatic engagements in Switzerland. He claimed that this involvement proved instrumental in preventing further escalation of tensions in the region. Furthermore, he noted that the discussions directly addressed sensitive matters, including ceasefire arrangements and the territorial integrity of Lebanon.

The speaker further alleged that Iran successfully challenged a recent social media communication from US President Donald Trump, which contained warnings directed at Iran regarding its support for regional proxy groups, specifically Hezbollah. Ghalibaf noted that Iran's pressure led to a revision of that post within an hour.

Despite these technical interactions, Ghalibaf reiterated Tehran's entrenched stance on diplomatic relations with Washington. He maintained that there is a deep-seated lack of trust regarding American intentions, stating that Iran has never relied on the United States, does not trust them now, and will remain cautious in future dealings.

Looking ahead, Ghalibaf called for steadfast national unity under the guidance of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, stressing that his directives remain the ultimate authority for the nation. The speaker also mentioned that tangible benefits have emerged from the ongoing discussions, pointing toward the potential release of frozen financial assets and the easing of sanctions related to the oil industry.

As both nations prepare for further diplomacy, the newly established High-Level Committee is tasked with developing a roadmap toward a final agreement within the next 60 days.
