India's LPG Supply Remains Stable Due to Government Measures

Highlights

  • Government Actions to Ensure Stable Supply
  • Extended Booking Periods for LPG Cylinders
  • Availability of Alternative Fuels Like Kerosene and Coal
  • Expansion of Digital Services and DAC System

In light of recent global events, which have the potential to impact energy supplies, the Indian government has taken several significant steps to maintain a balanced supply and demand equation. These measures are aimed at ensuring that fuel supplies remain stable for domestic needs.

Government Actions to Guarantee Fuel Supplies

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, which recently issued statements clarifying the smooth functioning of petro fuels including LPG, reported no disruptions in supply. To reduce pressure on LPG markets, steps such as increasing refinery production have been implemented. Additionally, booking periods for LPG cylinders have been extended to 25 days in urban areas and up to 45 days in rural regions.

The government has taken further actions by deploying alternative sources of energy. It has made kerosene and coal more accessible as substitutes to ease demand pressures on LPG. Moreover, the expansion of digital services ensures a seamless booking experience, with approximately 95 percent of nationwide bookings done online currently.

Enhancing Distribution Channels

To ensure equitable distribution, government agencies have increased coal supplies and advised states to provide new LPG connections for residential and commercial consumers. The Digital Authentication Code (DAC) system has been expanded, further reducing the risks of gas misappropriation with 91 percent deliveries processed through this mechanism.

On April 7, 2026, the government demonstrated the stability of the situation by supplying 5.35 million domestic cylinders in a single day. Efforts are being intensified against illegal hoarding and black marketing as distributors found violating regulations have been fined or suspended, ensuring strict enforcement.

These measures reflect the commitment of the central government to keep public concerns at bay regarding fuel supply issues during volatile times. Despite current challenges, reliable supplies continue uninterrupted, providing reassurance for the common man.
