The five major states including West Bengal have officially announced the dates for their upcoming assembly elections. Voting in these states will start on April 9 with a single-phase vote, set to conclude by May 4.
Voter polling will commence on April 9 across Assam, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal. A second phase of voting is scheduled for April 29, contingent upon the schedule in West Bengal where two phases have been allocated: the first phase taking place on April 23.
The Model Code of Conduct will be enforced across all five states as decided by the Election Commission starting from April 9. This move comes after a previous round of legislative elections set to expire in other states including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Kerala in May this year.
These election dates come only weeks after the announcement, creating an intense political campaign environment for the upcoming polls. The Election Commission held a press conference emphasizing the need for rigorous scrutiny of nominations and timely filing to prevent any last-minute hiccups on election day.
