Indian stock exchanges will remain closed for four days this week due to various holidays and weekends while banks observe Ram Navami and Mahavir Jayanti. Trading disruptions can be expected during this period.

Indian Markets and Banks Will Remain Closed for Four Days This Week

Highlights

  • Trading suspensions at BSE and NSE on March 26th
  • Markets will remain closed for two more days, with trading resuming on March 27th
  • March sees multiple holidays including Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti, and Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar's celebration
  • Banks will be open for limited hours, but operations remain impacted due to the end of financial year

Due to ongoing tensions in Western Asia, markets across India will experience significant disruptions. The stock market and gold rates are particularly affected by the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. In the past week, there has been a notable decline in gold prices before an upward trend was observed on March 25th.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) experienced trading suspensions throughout Monday, March 26th, in line with a market holiday. No transaction activities took place in any segment, including equities, equity derivatives, and securities lending on this day. Trading will resume at these exchanges starting from March 27th.

Key Holiday Updates for March

The markets will remain closed on the following dates due to various holidays:

  • March 26th: Trading suspended for Ram Navami
  • March 31st: Markets will be shut down for Mahavir Jayanti
  • Axiss will also close its operations on April 14th to observe Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, and Good Friday falls on the 3rd of that month.

Additionally, the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) will not conduct any trading until late evening sessions on March 27th. The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), however, is completely shutdown for both morning and evening operations during this period.

Banking Operations to Stay Open

While financial markets are affected by these holidays, banks may operate on a limited schedule in certain regions. March 27th and 28th will see minimal banking activities as these days coincide with Ram Navami. It's worth noting that banks will remain closed from the 29th to 31st due to Sundays and Mahavir Jayanti.

These closures will have a significant impact on businesses, particularly in the lead-up to the end of the financial year, where banking operations play a crucial role. The situation is closely tied with the ongoing geopolitical tensions, which continue to influence both global markets and specific regions like Western Asia.
