Preparations for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) are in full swing. The IPL's inaugural game is set to take place on March 28, featuring an encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Before this event, on June 25, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the schedule for the Indian team’s upcoming tour of Ireland.
The BCCI announced that the Indian team will commence its tour of Ireland in early June, engaging in a two-match T20 series. These matches are scheduled to be held at the Belfast Stadium in Northern Ireland and hold significant importance due to their timing post the Asia Cup tournament. Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the captain for this tour under India’s flag.
The first match of the series is scheduled for June 26, with India expected to face their hosts on that day. The second and concluding game will be played on June 28. After completing these matches, the Indian team will proceed towards England to compete in a five-match T20 series set to begin on July 1.
India recently clinched its third title at the T20 World Cup, defeating New Zealand in their final match played in Ahmedabad. The performance under captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav has earned India recognition as the first team to win two consecutive World Cup titles on home soil and history’s first team to win an ICC men’s T20 World Cup title in Ireland.
For context, historically, India boasts a 100% winning record against Ireland in T20 matches. Out of eight played encounters, the Indian side has won every fixture decisively. Most recently, these games took place on Indian soil and concluded with a convincing victory for India each time.
Following the BCCI's announcement regarding their upcoming tour to Ireland after the IPL, all cricket enthusiasts in India are looking forward to witnessing historic events during this shortened period of seven games within 13 days. The focus returns to the sport’s traditional grounds and marks a significant juncture in the ongoing tournament season.
