The central government of India has taken a decisive step towards promoting sustainable mobility by mandating the use of E20 petrol nationwide starting from April 1, 2026. This move, issued by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, aims to reduce fossil fuel dependency and improve environmental quality.
E20 petrol, which is an ethanol-blended fuel, contains 20% ethanol by volume and is set to become the standard across all states and union territories. The new directive emphasizes the mandatory inclusion of E20 in all fuel supplies, ensuring it aligns with the stringent standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
