India Deploys Humanitarian Assistance to Earthquake-Stricken Venezuela via Operation Amistad

India has demonstrated its commitment to international cooperation by launching Operation Amistad to provide vital humanitarian assistance to Venezuela following devastating earthquakes. This relief mission successfully delivered critical medical supplies and a specialized field hospital unit to help manage the aftermath of the recent natural disaster.

Rapid Response via Operation Amistad

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed that the aid has officially reached the South American nation. The deployment, facilitated by the Indian Air Force, underscores the country's capability to act as a responsive partner during global crises. Two C-17 Globemaster III aircraft were utilized for this mission, covering an impressive aerial distance of over 14,000 kilometers from Delhi to Caracas in a challenging 23-hour operation.

Upon landing at Maiquetia International Airport in Caracas, the aircraft unloaded approximately 66 tonnes of essential humanitarian assistance. This massive consignment included over 35 tonnes of relief supplies, various life-saving medicines, and advanced medical equipment. Furthermore, the shipment contained two BHISHM Cubes—modular trauma management systems—and a dedicated Indian Army field hospital unit to enhance local medical capacity.

The mission was initiated shortly after two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck the region on Wednesday evening. These seismic events represent the strongest tremors felt in Venezuela in over a century. As of Saturday, the official death toll has climbed to 1,430, with thousands of residents reported missing. The ongoing recovery efforts remain complex, and the arrival of these specialized medical resources is expected to provide significant relief to the affected population.

Strengthening Global Humanitarian Ties

The 41-member rescue team, which departed with the aid on Friday, is now working alongside local officials to address the emergency.
