Heavy Rainfall and Monsoon Forecast Alerts
According to the latest meteorological assessments, substantial precipitation is anticipated in several regions. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, along with Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coming 6 to 7 days. These northern and northeastern regions are currently the primary focus for flood and heavy rain monitoring.
Specific regional timelines indicate that Assam and Meghalaya should prepare for heavy rain from June 14 to 16, with a secondary surge expected on June 20. Similarly, Arunachal Pradesh is forecast to receive intense rainfall on June 15-16 and June 19-20, with continued wet spells on June 17 and 18. Meanwhile, southern areas such as Kerala and Mahe faced heavy rain alerts on June 14, and Telangana is bracing for heavy precipitation between June 18 and 20.
In central India, states including Chhattisgarh, eastern and western Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha are projected to witness heavy rains throughout the week, spanning from June 14 to 20. Alongside the rain, the IMD has issued warnings for hazardous wind speeds and lightning for these regions, particularly between June 14 and 19.
Thunderstorm and Heatwave Warnings
While large portions of the country are under a monsoon forecast for rain, other areas face different climate challenges. The meteorological department has highlighted a heatwave risk for specific parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha over the next three to four days. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions during peak thermal hours.
Meanwhile, northern states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand are managing alerts for severe weather phenomena. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to face gusty winds reaching 50-60 km/h, accompanied by lightning on June 15. In Bihar and Jharkhand, the department has warned of persistent thunderstorm activity and lightning from June 15 through June 20.
