The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has intensified its ongoing mission to reclaim public land and restore environmental assets in the region. In a significant move, the agency successfully secured five acres of government property located in Khanamet village, situated in the Serilingampally area. This land parcel, positioned along the route from Metal Charminar to the Hitex Exhibition Centre, is valued at an estimated ₹1,000 crore.

The site had been a subject of unauthorized occupation, with individuals attempting to claim the area as their own. These encroachers had restricted public access by installing metal sheet fencing and had further constructed temporary structures, including sheds and a room. Upon receiving reports from local revenue officials, HYDRAA mobilized to clear the area, dismantled the unauthorized constructions, and re-established government control by erecting new fencing and clear identification signage.

HYDRAA Targets Encroachments on Lake Ecosystems

In addition to reclaiming urban land, the agency has prioritized the protection of vital water bodies, including the Marripalli lake located in Abdullapurmet mandal. Investigations revealed that an individual had illegally set up a ready-mix concrete (RMC) unit on patta land adjacent to the lake. Furthermore, soil had been dumped into the water body, encroaching upon its full tank level (FTL) area, while worker sheds were erected within those protected limits.

Following a public complaint lodged via the “Praja Vani” platform, the agency launched an on-site inquiry to assess the extent of the damage. After verifying the illegal activities, HYDRAA removed the unauthorized structures on Tuesday. To prevent future violations, the agency has demarcated the FTL boundaries with fencing and established a designated path to ensure safe access for agricultural activities. The agency has also issued a directive for the complete removal of the soil that was dumped into the water.

The effort is part of a broader commitment to safeguard the city's natural resources. According to official HMDA records, Marripalli lake covers a total expanse of 31.05 acres. Through these rigorous lake encroachment removal operations, the agency aims to ensure the environmental integrity of the area remains protected within its designated boundaries for the benefit of the public.
