To address recurring waterlogging issues, the HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency) has initiated the construction of a new drainage pipeline in Miyapur. This strategic infrastructure expansion project aims to enhance rainwater management and mitigate potential flooding risks during heavy monsoon showers. The initiative follows severe inundation reported near BK Enclave on the busy Miyapur-Bachupally main road after intense rainfall late Monday night.
The accumulation of massive volumes of stormwater on the road resulted in significant disruption, with numerous vehicles becoming stranded and traffic flow grinding to a halt. In response, the Disaster Response Force and Monsoon Emergency Teams were deployed to the location, working throughout the night. Personnel utilized high-capacity pumps to clear the waterlogged zones and restore normalcy for commuters.
Addressing Drainage Infrastructure in Miyapur
Following the incident, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath conducted an on-site assessment of the affected areas on Tuesday. Accompanied by Traffic ACP Adi Murthy and other senior officials, the commissioner inspected the existing drainage network. The evaluation revealed that the current subterranean pipelines were insufficient to handle the high volume of stormwater during extreme weather events.
To provide a permanent remedy, Commissioner Ranganath immediately authorized the construction of an additional parallel pipeline designed to significantly boost local drainage capacity. Work on this infrastructure upgrade commenced promptly on Tuesday evening. According to local officials, the project involves installing a new one-metre-wide pipeline. This conduit will link the sub-road drainage system directly to Peddakudi Cheruvu, facilitating a more efficient discharge of floodwater into the lake.
Authorities emphasized that the new drainage pipeline expansion is a critical long-term solution intended to prevent future flooding in Miyapur. By diverting excess rainfall toward the water body, the agency expects to protect key thoroughfares from water stagnation. The construction activities are projected to be concluded by Wednesday morning, ensuring that the critical stretch of the road remains resilient against impending seasonal rains.
