Hyderabad EAPCET Toppers Show Limited Interest in State Engineering Colleges

Highlights

  • Only 5 of the top 100 EAPCET rankers registered for state engineering colleges.
  • Many top-performing students prioritize admission into national-level IITs and NITs.
  • Certificate verification for the 2026-27 academic session concludes on June 29.
  • Mock seat allocations will be available for students by July 4, 2026.

Recent data from the Hyderabad education sector highlights a significant trend regarding the EAPCET engineering stream. Reports reveal that top-performing students are increasingly opting to move away from state-run engineering colleges. For the 2026-27 academic session, only five out of the top 100 rankers have proceeded with registrations for government institutions.

This shift in student preference has been confirmed by statistics released by the Technical Education Department. The figures indicate that in the rank range of 101 to 500, merely 42 candidates successfully booked slots for their document verification process. Across the top 10,000 ranks, total registrations reached 6,691 students, shedding light on the current landscape of engineering admissions in the region.

Understanding the Trend in Engineering Admissions

Industry experts and officials suggest that the inclination of high-ranking students toward national institutes plays a pivotal role in these statistics. Many aspirants sit for the EAPCET primarily to gauge their competitive standing, but their ultimate objective remains securing seats in premier national institutes such as the IITs and NITs. Consequently, state engineering colleges are witnessing a decline in the interest shown by top-tier candidates.

Regarding the ongoing admissions process, authorities confirmed that by June 24, 2026, approximately 84,002 candidates had paid the necessary processing fee and reserved their slots for verification. Out of this group, 36,393 students have completed their certificate verification. Candidates are reminded that the final date for this critical verification stage is June 29, 2026.

The academic roadmap moving forward includes the release of mock seat allocations on or before July 4, 2026. This initial phase provides students with the opportunity to refine or modify their web options based on the results. Subsequently, the formal provisional seat allotment will be published on or before July 10, 2026.

In preparation for the final seat allocation, students are strongly advised to exercise caution and maintain the security of their personal credentials throughout the web-option process. Furthermore, educational counselors recommend that students should input as many preferences as possible to enhance their likelihood of securing admission into a preferred institution during the very first phase of counseling. This proactive approach is essential for navigating the highly competitive EAPCET admission process successfully.
