In a life-saving operation in Hyderabad, the Disaster Response Force (DRF) team demonstrated exceptional professionalism by rescuing an auto-rickshaw driver involved in a severe road accident. The incident occurred on Saturday near Mount Opera, when a vehicle traveling from the Batasingaram market carrying a load of fruit was struck from behind by a car.
The force of the collision pushed the three-wheeler into a roadside footpath railing, leading to a dangerous entrapment. An iron rod from the railing pierced the right leg of the 40-year-old driver, Balle Bangarayya. Fortunately, his daughter, who was accompanying him in the vehicle, remained uninjured despite the rod passing perilously close to her during the crash.
Rapid DRF Response Ensures Driver Safety
Following the distress call at approximately 10:40 am, the HYDRAA control room immediately coordinated with nearby response units. Two DRF teams were dispatched from different locations, successfully arriving at the accident scene within 15 minutes. This rapid response was critical to managing the situation effectively before the victim's condition could worsen.
The rescue personnel acted with precision to stabilize the iron rod, preventing further tissue damage or excessive blood loss. Using specialized equipment, including a grinding machine, the team carefully severed the railing rod to release the driver safely. After being freed from the wreckage, Balle Bangarayya was immediately handed over to 108 ambulance staff for urgent transport to a nearby hospital.
Recognition for Heroic Efforts
The efficiency of the rescue operation was highlighted by officials as a key factor in minimizing complications for the injured driver. Following the successful mission, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath personally commended the dedication shown by the rescue team. Eight members of the DRF involved in the operation were honored for their brave and skillful conduct.
To recognize their outstanding service, the commissioner presented the personnel with cash rewards and official certificates of appreciation. This event underscores the vital importance of the Disaster Response Force in managing road-related emergencies and ensuring public safety in the city.
