The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has officially approved a proposal to rename a prominent thoroughfare in Hyderabad, designating it as Donald Trump Avenue. This decision comes shortly after a commemoration plaque was unveiled near the US Consulate, marking the road’s new identity. The newly christened Donald Trump Avenue is set to span the stretch from the Q City junction to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) junction.

Infrastructure and Urban Development Initiatives

According to official statements, the decision to rename this road is part of Telangana's broader strategy to acknowledge global leaders and international corporations that have significantly contributed to the city's transformation into a major hub for global IT innovation. However, the proposal has not been without controversy, as the BJP state president, N. Ramchander Rao, has publicly voiced opposition to the renaming initiative.

Beyond the renaming of Donald Trump Avenue, the CMC standing committee meeting, chaired in the presence of Jayesh Ranjan, special chief secretary for metropolitan area and urban development, approved several other key infrastructure projects. These include the development of comprehensive sports infrastructure across five distinct locations in the Serilingampally zone. These projects are expected to be implemented through diverse models, such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and Public-Private Partnerships.

Furthermore, the committee sanctioned Project Ashray, an initiative focused on building rest and wellness hubs specifically designed for gig economy and delivery workers. These facilities are planned for five locations throughout the Serilingampally zone, also leveraging CSR funding. Additional developments include the construction of a sports arena under the PJR flyover, which has already been decorated with murals depicting renowned football stars.

Broader Municipal Upgrades

In parallel developments, the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) has moved forward with plans to establish an animal birth control and care center located in Jawaharnagar. Addressing concerns regarding urban flooding, the authorities have sanctioned significant funding for drainage improvements.

A budget of ₹5.8 crore has been approved for the construction of a stormwater drain connecting the Irrigation Nala to the Musi River in Road No. 48 of Uppal Bhagayath Phase-1. Additionally, an administrative sanction of ₹3 crore has been granted for another stormwater drain project in Road No. 55. Finally, the committee approved the construction of a new multi-sports arena in Uppal Bhagayath Phase-I with an estimated cost of ₹4.95 crore, reflecting the city’s continued commitment to enhancing urban public amenities and infrastructure.
