In a pointed critique of the current political climate in Telangana, the BRS deputy floor leader in the State Legislative Assembly, T. Harish Rao, has accused Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy of engaging in what he terms as blackmailing politics. Speaking at a gathering of families displaced from Survey No. 218 in Raghunadhapalem, Khammam, the former minister argued that such tactics are fundamentally detrimental to the democratic process.

Allegations of Financial Mismanagement and Coercion

T. Harish Rao highlighted significant concerns regarding the current administration's approach to governance. He noted that during the previous administration's nine-and-a-half-year tenure, the government successfully disbursed 19,000 crore rupees toward tuition fee reimbursements for students in private colleges. In contrast, he alleged that the current Congress-led government has failed to release any funds for this purpose over the past two-and-a-half years, causing considerable hardship for the student community.

According to Harish Rao, the Chief Minister is utilizing the issue of pending tuition reimbursements as leverage to coerce private college managements. He further claimed that similar intimidation tactics have been employed against private hospital administrators when they sought the release of outstanding payments under the Rajiv Aarogyasri health scheme. The opposition leader characterized these actions as a misuse of authority that borders on blackmailing politics.

Criticism of Development and Eviction Policies

The critique extended to the state government's urban and district policies as well. Harish Rao questioned the administration's commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged, specifically criticizing the operations of HYDRAA in the demolition of homes belonging to the poor. He expressed skepticism regarding the state government’s vision of Indiramma Rajyam, suggesting that these actions contradict their stated goals. Furthermore, he directed strong criticism toward Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy regarding the events in Velugumatla, alleging that the minister is actively targeting the residences of vulnerable populations in the district.

Addressing the longevity of the current administration, the BRS leader emphasized that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy should remain mindful that his current mandate spans only two years and five months. The statements from Harish Rao reflect growing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, as the latter intensifies its scrutiny of the government's policy implementation and its interactions with private institutions and marginalized communities across Telangana.
